The Community Foundation who serves West Central Illinois and Northeast Missouri announced a new grant to help strengthen Agricultural Education recently. This is a fully endowed grant from the Bob W. Richter Endowment for Agricultural Education. Many FFA chapters and other educational programs were presented grants to further ag education in the classroom and beyond.
The Monroe County Extension office received a $1,000 grant to expand our Embryology program. This program is taken to schools throughout the county every spring. Our county office also pre-incubates eggs for several other neighboring counties. The funds will be used to purchase a large cabinet-style incubator to do the pre-incubation and some updated smaller classroom sized incubators.
This is a fun and widely anticipated program each spring and the ability to make it even better with these funds is a win for all! If your school would like to participate in our Embryology program, please contact your local Extension office for more information. We generally start scheduling classrooms at the end of the year for hatching from late February to early May.
