USPS Changes
February 26, 2025

In the last few weeks, there were several reports of the current Postmaster General preparing to step down. There were also reports that the White House wants to dissolve the USPS Board of Governors.
While nothing seems to be certain yet the National Newspaper Association believes the mail that is most at risk of seeing changes are "end-to-end" pieces, which includes all subscribers more than 300 miles away from your post office of acceptance.
Currently, no action has been taken by the White House regarding the USPS, but the advice being offered by the NNA (and passed on by CJP) is to make sure as many out-of-county subscribers as possible have online access enabled.
On a related note, the USPS is implementing a "Regional Transportation Optimization" initiative. The biggest piece of this is that a large number of (mostly rural) post offices will no longer have mail and packages picked up in the afternoon to be delivered to the larger regional sorting facilities, which means adding a longer delay before folks will get their mail. You can read the full article on the possible impact (https://www.savethepostoffice.com/usps-is-set-to-downgrade-delivery-standards-which-congressional-districts-and-states-will-be-hardest-hit/), but this is another good reason we encourage out-of-county folks to access the paper online.
I'm keeping a close eye on these changes and will do my best to keep everyone up-to-date.
A healthy Monroe County requires great community news.
