Ralls County Historical Society in Need of Volunteers

December 12, 2024

The Ralls County Historical Society has been on Perry's Main Street for almost 50 years. Its museum showcases items from the county's past, including trophies and photos from the county's schools, military memorabilia and uniforms, and numerous items from the area's centennial and sesquicentennial celebrations.
The heart of the museum is the extensive research library available to patrons seeking personal or historical information. Files of family records and reference books help the beginning genealogist find a path to their legacy.
Ron Leake, who has served as the Society's president for many years, has worked most of his life gathering many county and area history books. These, along with files of military records, church and cemetery records, and school records provide one of the finest research libraries in the area.
As with all established organizations the years have stripped our membership rolls, and the Society finds itself in need of volunteers. The museum recently moved to the north side of Main Street. Library materials and some display items remain in other buildings. There is a need for physically moving some display cases and file cabinets as well as files and books to the new location.
If you have a love of history and would like to help preserve our county's heritage for the younger generations, please come see Ron at the Museum. He is there by 10:00 a.m. most days and can be reached at 573-248-6147 anytime.
