O'Bannon Not Running Again for Office

Marilyn O'Bannon has decided not to run again for the office of Monroe County Western District Commissioner. "It has been a pleasure to serve the county residents as well as my constituents in the western district. This was a difficult decision not to run," shares O'Bannon.

O'Bannon is in her last year of a 4-year term of serving as western district commissioner. Although many are aware of her decision not to run again, she wanted to make a public announcement before sign up begins on February 27th.

"Any accomplishments while serving in the office have been jointly with my fellow commissioners and work of the county clerk's office. Some highlights include: Cybersecurity grant, installation of security system, needed repairs and improvements to the courthouse, equipment purchases for road and bridge, vehicles for law enforcement, awarding of ARPA funds for various projects including purchase of property to house road and bridge department. In addition, several new bridges have been constructed in the county; improved wages and continued benefits for county employees. Priorities for me coming into office were protecting property rights, transparency, and high-speed internet. I hope to see improvement in the internet, especially in the rural areas before leaving office. Also, the commission is working with Planning and Zoning to revise regulations to address commercial wind and solar, and other much needed updates, shared O'Bannon.

O'Bannon's entire work career has been serving the public. She does not consider not running again for commissioner as retirement, just the ability to focus on other aspects of my life.
