Blessing Box Located in New London

December 21, 2020

The year 2020 has been unprecedented. Due to the pandemic caused by COVID-19, families are facing food insecurity at astonishing levels. With Christmas right around the corner, now more than any other time of year, we are focused on food. As some gear up for family dinners, others prepare for lack thereof. The Second Christian Church (DOC) in New London is assisting in resolving this community need by hosting a Blessing Box.

WHAT IS A BLESSING BOX?

Blessing Boxes are outdoor cabinets in public places that are stocked with non-perishable food items, basic toiletries, baby supplies, and anything else that might be considered a blessing to someone who finds themselves in need. Items are donated and anonymously received. A simple rule applies - Leave what you can, take only what you need. The Second Christian Church Blessing Box is located at the corner of Main and 4th Streets. Church members will work to maintain the box and its contents.
This endeavor of the Second Christian Church is to bless those who may need an extra hand during this time of the year. If you find that you want to help support the Second Christian Church with this community effort, please contact Mrs. Marsha Mayfield at 573.719.7171 or email: marsha.mayfield@yahoo.com or place your own donation of non-perishable goods in the box. Feeding those is need is not new for the Church. Members have faithfully served with the Loaves and Fishes program in Hannibal for the last four years and with the New London Loaves and Fishes program.
