Ralls County R-II School District recently applied for two grants through the Ralls County Commission. The grant dollars were available due to COVID19 through the CARES Act. Ralls County R-II first applied in August to purchase 10 electrostatic sprayers to quickly and efficiently disinfect buildings and school buses. The Ralls County Commission approved the grant for $5,384.54. The sprayers are being utilized all across the district daily to eliminate both viruses and bacteria. Pictured with one of the sprayers are Commissioners John Lake, RC Harlow, Wiley Hibbard and Superintendent of Ralls County R-II School District, Dr. Tara Lewis.

An additional opportunity became available in the form of a match grant in late September. A student accessibility grant from DESE for $12,000 was available to the school district if they could find a match donor. The Ralls County Commission once again supported the opportunity and matched the amount. The total at no cost to the school district is $22,183.14, with 50% from the DESE grant and 50% from the Ralls County Commission. This grant will provide the installation of exterior WIFI connections outside Ralls County Elementary School, Mark Twain Junior High, Mark Twain High School and at the ballfield/bus barn area on the south side of the district campus. This opportunity will allow students or other citizens to obtain reliable WIFI connection while in the parking lot areas of our facility grounds. 4% of our students at this time have elected to enroll through virtual classes as the COVID19 pandemic continues. Installation of the exterior WIFI is expected soon.
